A Calcareous sponge, also known as a Calcarea sponge, contains calcium carbonate-based skeletons, whereas a Homoscleromorpha sponge is soft and gelatinous. Because it has a silica skeleton, the Hexactinellida glass sponge is one of a few that exist. The most diverse living sponge species, Demospongiae, contain 90 percent of all sponges and are characterized by their spongy bodies, which cover only one cell thick skin. Each type of sponge can have its own distinct characteristics, as the classes contain over 8,500 different species of sponges. Demospongiae, Hexactdainelli, Calcarea, and Homoscleromorpha are the four distinct types of sponges in the phylum Porifera, which is made up of four types of sponges. The sponge is a fascinating creature that lives in the ocean. Although the majority of sponges are marine, some species prefer freshwater lakes and streams. Aquatic habitats are the habitats of sponges, which are simple invertebrate animals.
